To ensure that the Government, through the Australian Defence Force, has an active and effective role in promoting stability, integrity and cohesion in our immediate neighbourhood. Australia shares the immediate neighbourhood with Indonesia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Southeast Asian countries and the island countries of the Pacific.
